I’m in Brooke Castillo’s monthly coaching program, Self Coaching Scholars and it is the best. Seriously life changing. She teaches what’s called the model which is that all circumstances are neutral until we have a thought about them which create our feelings which drive our actions which create our results.
I’ve been in scholars since September and this week had a major ? moment where I saw clearly how what seemed like an observation of the truth was really just my own thinking in that present moment that created the feeling in my body in that present moment.
This is such an important concept. Thoughts about circumstances aren’t observations. They are all always 100% optional and they exist only in this present moment.
It’s not the circumstance that makes us feel bad (or good or whatever). It is the thinking in this present moment. And we don’t feel emotions from the past – the emotions we feel are happening only in this present moment and they are created by thoughts in this present moment. The thoughts might be about something that happened in the past. But they’re thoughts we’re having now.
Try this. Think about something that happened today. Now, check in with your body how it feels when you think it. Really do this. Really try to identify where in the body there’s a vibration. How does it feel? Notice how it is only in this present moment that it exists and it’s created by thought alone. It’s not created by the circumstance. The circumstance is over! It happened already. It’s not affecting us. It’s only the thought about that thing that is creating that feeling.
